Internship Opportunities

Interning at NextEra Energy

At what other company can you work more than 250 feet in the air, develop virtual reality training, volunteer in the community and interact with top executives? At NextEra Energy, being an intern means more than getting involved in the day-to-day business. You'll get exposure to real projects and challenges in an innovative and diverse environment while you gain professional experience. Our goal is to develop new talent and test candidates for a right ‘fit’ for future full-time employment. Based on successful performance and the talent needs of our business, interns may have the opportunity to become NextEra Energy employees.

Power delivery intern
Prior to graduating from college with a B.S. in electrical engineering, I sought experience in the power industry by obtaining an internship with NextEra Energy. The opportunities provided as a protection and control intern enabled me to enhance my technical skills by gaining valuable field experience as I worked in substations with an amazing team of engineers. Equally, this internship program equipped me with the tools to become a better communicator, team player and leader for the community as well as the professional industry. Emphasis on safety, reliability, sustainability, renewables and overall environmental protection was instilled in me through this program and I am grateful for what is NEXT. As an intern, I was given two projects that really allowed me to build my skills and showcase my individuality to the company. This summer really challenged and encouraged me to learn new things and reach new heights, and it was an incredible experience. The biggest takeaway for me, however, was the incredible culture of the company—they invest in their employees and help them grow, are committed to doing the right thing and really value the diversity of their employees. I want to build my career with NextEra Energy, and I encourage everyone to apply and see how great this company truly is. I have interned with Florida Power and Light (FPL) two times and I’m excited to go back. Working at FPL allowed me to discover my passion for power systems and encouraged me to purse my M.S. in electrical engineering with a focus in power systems. FPL provides many opportunities for students to be creative, innovative and even a chance to serve the community. They always provide a family environment, and I am very grateful to be able to work for a company that is committed to excellence, doing the right thing and having respect for people.
