Interning at NextEra Energy

At what other company can you work more than 250 feet in the air, develop virtual reality training, volunteer in the community and interact with top executives? At NextEra Energy, being an intern means more than getting involved in the day-to-day business. You'll get exposure to real projects and challenges in an innovative and diverse environment while you gain professional experience. Our goal is to develop new talent and identify candidates for a suitable future full-time employment opportunity. Based on successful performance and the talent needs of our business, interns may have the opportunity to become NextEra Energy employees.

Protection and control intern

Prior to graduating from college with a B.S. in electrical engineering, I sought experience in the power industry by obtaining an internship with NextEra Energy. The opportunities provided as a protection and control intern enabled me to enhance my technical skills by gaining valuable field experience as I worked in substations with an amazing team of engineers. Equally, this internship program equipped me with the tools to become a better communicator, team player and leader for the community as well as the professional industry. Emphasis on safety, reliability, sustainability, renewables and overall environmental protection was instilled in me through this program and I am grateful for what is NEXT.

Human resources intern / project finance intern

As an intern, I was given two projects that really allowed me to build my skills and showcase my individuality to the company. This summer really challenged and encouraged me to learn new things and reach new heights, and it was an incredible experience. The biggest takeaway for me, however, was the incredible culture of the company—they invest in their employees and help them grow, are committed to doing the right thing and really value the diversity of their employees. I want to build my career with NextEra Energy, and I encourage everyone to apply and see how great this company truly is.

Marketing and communication intern

Although I am a cybersecurity major, I took a position as the museum intern in the marketing and communication business unit to try something new and gain exposure to the company. As a first-year intern, NextEra Energy made my experience beyond enjoyable and beneficial. Working on the museum provided me with an in-depth look on how NextEra Energy evolved to being one of the top utility companies in the world. Employees went out of their way to help me with my project and networking. My final project now has a place within the company's history, and I was able to secure a position with the IGNITE Leadership Development Rotational Program (IT track). I am eager to continue my story with NextEra Energy and am grateful for the help and encouragement everyone provided me.

Information technology / power generation intern

Three NextEra Energy internships led me to a full-time employment opportunity as a power generation division REDI engineer. During those years, I was able to foresee the kind of work environment I wanted to be in and the type of challenges I wanted to face as part of my future career. NextEra Energy provided me the ability to understand how to develop not only innovative solutions as an engineer, but at the same time comprehend the importance on how your solution will be implemented, which plays an important part of becoming a valuable engineer. I can’t express the gratitude I feel for NextEra Energy giving me the opportunity to be part of a company that not only pushes my personal development, but also that challenges itself every day to become a cleaner renewable power generation solution for a better tomorrow.
