The five things you need to know today:

  • Storm update: Idalia made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region Wednesday morning as a major hurricane, packing destructive wind, torrential rain and life-threatening storm surge. Idalia remains a hurricane as it moves inland. The storm continues to impact our service territory and is expected to move into Georgia later today. FPL worked safely through the evening and morning hours and, as of 10 a.m., FPL has restored power to nearly 100,000 customers impacted by the storm. FPL currently has more than 22,000 customers without power.
  • Stay safe: Nothing is more important than the safety of you and your family. As the storm continues to move through Florida into Georgia, use caution when driving through dangerous conditions.
    • Remember when entering intersections that other drivers may not stop due to missing stop signs or inoperable signal lights. Do not cross downed power lines or enter deeply flooded areas.
    • If you plan to use a portable generator, follow the manufacturer instructions and view our safety tips.
  • Take action: Ensure your personal information in HR4U is up to date so the company can reach you through the Emergency Notification System (ENS) if necessary.
    • Add the NextEra Alert / ENS phone numbers (561-375-9191 / 866-375-9191) to your phone contacts so you recognize calls.
    • If you are working to support the storm, make sure you have your badge with you to show to officials if you are stopped or questioned.
  • Be cyber aware: Bad actors use emergency events like storms to try and gain access to our company’s secure data and systems. Keep your guard up and take an extra second to spot and report potential phishing attempts and attempted fraud.
  • Stay connected: What you say or share on social media can affect the company’s reputation with our customers and communities we serve. Please follow the NextEra Energy Social Media Policy and if you are approached by a member of the media, you should promptly refer them to media relations at 561-694-4442.
