The five things you need to know today:
- Restoration update: FPL has essentially completed restoration in Southwest Florida and continues to restore power in the hardest-hit areas of North Florida in the aftermath of Hurricane Idalia. As of 8 a.m. ET, FPL’s round-the-clock effort has restored power to more than 190,000 customers while its smart grid technology has helped to avoid nearly 60,000 outages during the storm. In the hardest-hit areas of Suwannee and Columbia counties, we are working to restore power to nearly 9,000 customers.
- Check out the FPL Newsroom to stay up-to-date on our restoration process.
- Stay safe: While working long hours to get the lights on, it is important that we do not let our guard down. We must continue to keep safety first in everything we do.
- Please use caution while driving and be aware of debris, flooding and traffic. Avoid flooded roadways. The water depth and condition of the roads are all unknowns and can be deadly. Use alternate routes where available.
- Take action: We understand this may be a challenging time for those who were directly impacted by the storm. We have a resource guide available that includes insurance information, safety tips and local and state emergency numbers that can help now that the storm has passed.
- Additional resources: We want to remind you that you and your household members have access to 16 free sessions through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) with Lyra.
- To get connected to care through Lyra, call 877-236-6080 (available 24 hours) or visit nextera.lyraheath.com.
- Be cyber aware: Be cautious of smishing, a phishing attempt by cybercriminals through text message. Usually, the text message will ask you to click a link, do something unusual like purchase gift cards or share personal information like an ATM pin, social security number, confirmation code, etc. Know the red flags to look out for.
