Following more than 39 years of service with Florida Power & Light Company (FPL), Phillip “Scott” A. McLeod, Jr., former FPL west area stations manager, commits his time to supporting and connecting retirees.
For the past six years, Scott has remained actively involved with the FPL West Florida Retiree Chapter, a community that continues to foster connection, camaraderie and support among former colleagues. Encouraged by fellow retirees to get involved, Scott’s participation has grown into a meaningful commitment centered on staying connected and helping others navigate life after retirement.
His passion for staying engaged extends even further supporting two additional retiree groups. Scott attends monthly retiree breakfast and lunch events, where he plays an active role in keeping fellow retirees connected by sending reminder communications to help keep members informed.
“I think regular retiree meetings are incredibly important for mental and emotional well-being. In many cases, former coworkers have spent more time together over the years than with their own family members. Retirement can be a sudden shock—figuring out what to do with your time, talking through challenges and supporting one another through the loss of a spouse or a serious illness. These connections really matter,” Scott said.
Beyond retiree activities, Scott also dedicates time to teaching Sunday school and providing technical support at his church. He also appreciates spending time with his family and community.
