Following 24 years of service with Florida Power & Light Company (FPL), Miguel Santiago, former senior project manager in Environmental Services, continues to make a difference in his community through volunteer service and education.

For the past 19 years, Miguel has dedicated his time to El Sol Jupiter Neighborhood Resource Center, an organization committed to improving quality of life in the Jupiter community by providing labor, education, community health, food and nutrition, and youth services. Inspired by the organization’s mission and impact, Miguel has volunteered in a variety of roles over the years, including supporting the kitchen, registering workers, teaching computer skills and most recently, teaching English through the center’s nighttime adult education program.

“People don’t have to retire to start volunteering,” Miguel said. “Find a local nonprofit organization that catches your attention and help out as you can.”

In addition to his work with El Sol, Miguel and his wife volunteer at annual events sponsored by People Engaged in Active Community Efforts (PEACE) and Tepeyak Mission, organizations dedicated to helping individuals and families overcome challenges and achieve success. Through nearly two decades of volunteerism, Miguel continues to demonstrate that making a positive impact in the community is a lifelong commitment – one that extends well beyond retirement.

When he’s not volunteering, Miguel enjoys staying active by working out at the NEE gym in the Robo building and swimming at his local aquatic center. He and his wife also enjoy traveling and exploring new places together.
