Tami-Retiree

After retiring in 2017 after 30 years of service with Florida Power & Light Company (FPL), Tami Varckette, former document management manager, gives back to her local community by volunteering with the Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of the Sun Coast. Tami’s volunteer work over the last four years is making a positive impact in Manatee County.

Through BBBS, Tami participates in both the school-based and community-based mentoring programs, which allows her to provide the support and tools her “Littles” need to build a brighter future. Tami meets with her “Littles” weekly and helps with homework and reading, all while building a great friendship. In addition to the school-related tasks, Tami and her “Littles” also participate in a variety of activities including blueberry picking, zip lining, attending their school theatre productions and more.

“I hope I am impacting their lives as much as they’ve changed mine,” Tami said. “I encourage others to join the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentorship program and make a difference today.”

Tami is also involved in the fundraising committee for the BBBS in Manatee County and attributes the skills that she gained at FPL toward her contributions for this yearly task.

When Tami isn’t volunteering with the BBBS of the Sun Coast, she enjoys serving as chapter coordinator for the Manatee County retiree network chapter and staying connected to the NextEra Energy family.
