Following nearly 38 years of service with Florida Power & Light Company, David Young, former FPL product engineer in technical services, dedicates his time and passion of woodworking to help his neighbors in the community.

David is an active member and board director of Melbourne Makerspace, a nonprofit organization that hosts open houses where the public can learn any of the disciplines available including welding, pottery, 3D printing, laser engraving, wood shop and more. He specializes his volunteer efforts in wood shop, where he identified a need for equipment maintenance and teaching opportunities.

After being an active member of Makerspace for five years, David joined an advisory role regarding the organization’s priorities. This included formulating a board of directors to assist with managing the facility, paying bills, purchasing and repairing equipment, and creating a vision for the space. Makerspace has transformed into a collaborative space for learning, exploring, and sharing ideas and knowledge.

During his spare time, he enjoys fishing, cruising and bonding with his grandson. When David isn’t supporting his volunteer efforts, he enjoys staying connected to the NextEra Energy family, serving as a Retiree Network Chapter Co-Coordinator for the Brevard Florida Chapter. He appreciates the opportunity to reconnect with colleagues and spend time together.
