FPL Care To Share®
Our Care To Share® program provides crisis assistance to customers who are unable to pay their electric bills. In 2020, FPL provided nearly $1.6 million in Care To Share assistance for customers in need and helped nearly 3,000 households in crisis pay their bills.

In addition to contributions from customers and employees, donations to Care To Share® included $1.25 million from NextEra Energy shareholders in 2020. Every dollar donated was given directly to those in need through partner agencies, and no tax-deductible donations were used for fundraising or administrative costs.

FPL Assistance
FPL works with nearly 900 agencies system-wide to facilitate payment assistance for qualified customers. Funding sources include the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, the Emergency Home Energy Assistance Program for the Elderly, FPL Care To Share® and other funding sources from nonprofit and faith-based groups. In 2020, advocacy partners helped secure more than $40 million in energy assistance for more than 105,000 customers in need of help paying their electric bills.

Project SHARE
FPL works with a vast network of social-service organizations located throughout its service area to facilitate payment assistance for qualified customers. Our Project SHARE is administered by the Salvation Army and provides assistance to our neighbors in Northwest Florida who need assistance with their energy bills. In 2020, we helped secure more than $115,000 in energy assistance through Project SHARE.
TESTIMONIAL
"Jewish Family Service of Broward has enjoyed a close working relationship with FPL for many years. We cannot say enough about the courtesy, respect and quick response that the staff has shown our social workers and clients. Our partnership has allowed us to help the neediest in our community at a time when so many are in crisis."
--Barbara Bailin, Director of Information and Referral, Jewish Family Services of Broward County
Community Care for the Elderly
This program provides assistance to qualifying seniors aged 60 and older so they can remain in their homes or with their caregivers rather than relocating to institutional care facilities. In 2018, FPL supported the Florida Council on Aging (FCOA) with a shareholder sponsorship of $5,000, which was matched by donations from partner organizations and individuals across the state. Together, these sponsorships enabled FCOA to conduct a grassroots advocacy campaign that helped increase funding for the program from the Florida Legislature.
Power to Save
FPL also assists customers in need with energy efficiency improvements to help lower their bills through our Power to Save program. A free, comprehensive home energy survey is performed, energy efficient measures are installed, and we offer energy savings tips to help customers save up to $500* in energy savings.

Supporting our Customers
In 2020, both FPL suspended electrical disconnections statewide for the first few months of the COVID-19 pandemic. Following such suspensions, our customer service team works with customers to establish payment plans or offer assistance to those continuing to experience hardship. NextEra Energy Resources also worked with customers in the first months of the pandemic to suspend disconnections and make payment arrangements for customers in need.
