Economic benefits

Duane Arnold’s restart would provide more than $9 billion in economic benefits to Linn County and the state of Iowa over a 25-year operating term, according to a recent economic impact study. The study also estimated the creation of approximately 400 high-quality, long-term jobs, $320 million of economic activity in Linn County and $346 million in the state during operations each year.

Tax benefits

The same study found that Duane Arnold would provide more than $75 million for all taxing districts over the life of the project, including more than $41 million for the local school district and $26 million for Linn County.  

Safety

The health and safety of the public is our top priority. We have rigorous monitoring protocols and layers of protection in place to ensure the safety of our employees and the public. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) sets safety standards that are continuously reviewed and implemented at the facilities.

Company investments in Iowa

NextEra Energy Duane Arnold is an indirect subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources, LLC – one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America.  NextEra Energy Resources has invested more than $3 billion in the state of Iowa since 1999, representing our parent company’s commitment to bringing energy, investments and jobs to the state. This includes approximately $68 million in annual payroll, more than $12 million in annual land payments and about $11 million in property taxes paid last year.
