Employment Scams

Avoid falling victim to an employment scam. There are some common scam indicators you should know about.

Protect yourself from recruitment fraud

NextEra Energy has become aware of criminals fraudulently using our name, logo and the names and logos of our affiliate companies — including Florida Power & Light Company, NextEra Energy Resources, GEXA and others — as part of employment scams.

These scams are designed to steal personal information, financial details or money from job seekers.

Important: NextEra Energy and our affiliate companies will never ask candidates for money, gift cards, cryptocurrency or payments of any kind at any stage of the recruiting or hiring process.

If something feels suspicious, pause and verify before sharing personal information.

How employment scams typically work

Scammers may:

  • Post fake job openings online or on social media
  • Contact candidates through LinkedIn, text messages or messaging apps
  • Use email addresses that look similar to legitimate company addresses
  • Conduct interviews solely through chat or messaging platforms
  • Send fraudulent offer letters that appear professional

Their goal is often to:

  • Collect personally identifiable information (PII) such as Social Security numbers or passport information
  • Obtain banking details (e.g., direct deposit information)
  • Request payment for fake training, background checks, equipment or visa processing
  • Involve victims in fraudulent financial transactions

How to protect yourself

  • Verify that communications come from an official company email domain, including @NEE.com, @FPL.com or @NextEraEnergy.com
  • Do not share personal or financial information unless you are certain the opportunity is legitimate.
  • Never send money as part of a job application process.
  • Be cautious of job offers made exclusively through social media.

What to do if you suspect fraud: If you believe you have received a fraudulent job offer or have been targeted by a scam:

  • Do not respond or send additional information.
  • Report the incident to your local law enforcement authorities.
  • Visit stopfraud.gov for guidance on reporting employment scams.

Your safety and security matter to us. If you have any doubts about the legitimacy of a job opportunity, please verify it directly through our official Careers website before sharing any personal information.
